LA FABRIQUE DU REGARD

FACING IMAGES: QUESTIONING, CREATING, ACTING

 

Since its creation in 2008, La Fabrique du Regard, the educational and creative hub of Le BAL, conducts in-depth work every year with young people aged 6 to 20 in areas marked by urban policy, priority education networks, and territories distant from cultural and artistic offerings. Its programs involve 1,500 young people, 30 artists and image professionals, 60 teachers, and educators in Paris, Île-de-France, and the region.

 

Through a pedagogy that combines "seeing" and "doing," young people learn to interpret images by questioning their processes of production, dissemination, and reception. They thus confront different viewpoints, sharpen their gaze on the formal choices of images, and on what they tell us about the contemporary world.

 

This immersive and sensitive approach unfolds during collective analysis workshops in classrooms, facing works at Le BAL, in cinemas, on ERSILIA, Le BAL's image education platform, or in a partnering professional venue. Following this reflective phase, a creation phase is led by young people with artists to design and produce a unique object: a film, photographic series, publication, performance, etc., embodying their thoughts and their taste for images. Each program lasts from 15 to 60 hours.

 

As a sounding board for the creations and questions of young people and artists, La Fabrique du Regard – Le Festival reflects the scale and relevance of the essential challenges of image education today. Every year, during a week of screenings, workshops, and meetings at Le BAL, artists and young people present their creations to you in an installation conceived, produced, and staged by Le BAL's team.

 

Since 2008, La Fabrique du Regard has been:

 

• Seizing images to foster critical and emancipatory thinking

• Creating forms that resonate with current debates

• Developing viewers aware of the challenges of image

• Training some 30,000 young people

• Inviting 650 visual artists 

• and 3,800 teachers and educators

• Involving 275 neighbourhoods

• and some130,000 users across 13 regions of France, overseas territories, and French high schools abroad, thanks to ERSILIA, LE BAL's digital image education platform.
